images1So, I try to be a green person (not the Kermit the frog type), but sometimes life has a way of pushing back.  True story:

My daughter is just getting through potty training.  I still go in and check on her occasionally to make sure that she has not used an entire roll of toilet paper (DEFINITELY a rant for another day) or that she is not camped out talking on the telephone whilst sitting on the toilet.  I digress.  One recent afternoon, I went in the bathroom to check on her.  She had already done her business, but had not yet flushed.  Being the conscientious mother, I decided I would go the bathroom myself and then flush the toilet.  BAD IDEA.  Here is the exchange:

Daughter: “What are you doing mommy?”

Me: “I am going to the potty honey.”

Daughter: “But you didn’t flush first mommy.”

Me: “I know, honey.  Mommy is trying to save water.  You know we shouldn’t waste water.”

Daughter: (cue instantaneous crying here) “But mommy you didn’t flush!”

Me: “I know, honey.  I told you I’m trying not to waste water.”

Daughter: (now sobbing loudly) “But mommy, you will make my pee-pee so sad.”

Me: “What?”

Daughter: “You are making my pee-pee sad because you peed on it!!!” (continual sobbing, working toward wailing)

Me: “I’m sorry.  Mommy won’t do it again.”

Alas, I TRY to be green.  But it ain’t so easy.

I might have also ranted about this here:
