When I was pregnant with my second child, I lost my stomach for television. I couldn’t watch news (too depressing), drama (too violent, too sappy), politics (too tense), sports (too much time), reality TV (too stupid), or comedy (well, not completely, but mostly). What did I watch? Documentaries. I became a HUGE fan of the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, etc.  This was good because 1) I figured if it was going to watch TV, I might as well learn something, and 2) documentaries put me to sleep. Win-win.

Now said child is 18 months old (older child is almost 4) and guess what? I have rediscovered TV. I watch news, follow politics, creepy TV shows (Fringe, Lie to Me, Flash Forward), comedy (Glee), reality TV (Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol), & my beloved sports (college football, tennis, golf, pro football). So why does this matter. It doesn’t. But something else happened. I realized that, as a stay-at-home mom, I missed connecting with people. Watching TV gave me a connection .. something to talk about .. something to add to the conversation. Perhaps this is my fascination with Twitter because I can find other people who like what I like in 2.3 seconds. PERFECT!

So, if you ever want to tweet about pop culture, let me know. Moreover, if I am all alone in the above scenario, I will be quite disillusioned. Am I alone?

I might have also ranted about this here:
